পরিচয়ঃ অপর নাম সিম্ফাইটাম অফিসিনেলিস । আফুলা গাছের মূল হইতে টিংচার প্রস্তুত হয় । অর্থ্যাৎ ফুল ফোটার আগে তাজা গাছের মূল সংগ্রহ করে ঔষুধ প্রস্তুত করা হয় । এই গাছ ইউরোপে ঝর্ণার ধারে স্যাৎস্যাতে নিচু জমিতে জন্মে ।

ভাঙ্গা হাড়/ অস্থি জোড়া লাগাতে পারে।

সূঁচ বা কাঁটা ফোঁটানোর মত অদ্ভুত, অস্বাভাবিক ব্যথা কমায়, দূর করে।

হাড় যেখানে ভেঙ্গে গেছে সেখানে উত্তেজনা (স্পর্শকাতর)।
-
অস্থি হাড় জোড়া লেগে গেলেও উক্ত স্থানের আশে পাশের অংশে ব্যথা থেকে যায়।

ভোঁতা কোন কিছু দিয়ে আঘাত লাগার ফলে চোখে ব্যথা।

বরফের কুচি চোখে ঢুকে গিয়ে আঘাত লাগা।

শিশু যদি তার মায়ের চোখে ঘুষি মারে এবং মা চোখে ব্যথা পায় সেক্ষেত্রে ইহা কাজ করে।

ভালভাবে কানে শুনতে পায় না; মনে হয় কর্ণ বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে।

নিচের চোয়ালের ছোট হাড় ফুলে যায়, লাল হয় এবং উহাতে প্রদাহ, জ্বলন।

পেরিওসটিয়ামের প্রদাহ (Inflammation of periosteum)

- চক্ষু গোলকের উপর আঘাত।
- হাড় ভাঙ্গিয়া গেলে বা মচকাইয়া গেলে ইহা রুটার তুল্য।
- পেশী বা শিরা আঘাত প্রাপ্ত হইলে ইহা আর্ণিকার তুল্য।
শরীরের কোনও স্থানের অস্থি ভেঙ্গে গেলে তাহা এই ঔষধের আভ্যন্তরিক ও বাহ্যিক প্রয়োগে ভাঙ্গা অস্থি জোড়া লাগিয়া যায় ।
কাতরতাঃ জানা যায়নি।
মায়াজমেটিক অবস্থাঃ (মায়াজমের দোষ নষ্ট করার শক্তি):

মূল কথাঃ
- বেদনাযুক্ত ফোলা আছে কিন্তু চর্মের বর্ণ বিকৃতি নাই।
- অস্থি আবরক বা নরম হড়ে আঘাত রাগা হেতু অত্যন্ত ব্যথা।
- সূঁচ ফোটানবৎ ব্যথা।
- চোখ ও মুখমন্ডরে আঘাত।
- ভাঙ্গা হাড় জোড়া না লাগা।
ব্যবহারস্থলঃ অস্থিবেষ্ট বিদ্ধ হওয়া বা অস্থিভঙ্গ । অস্ত্রপচারের পর পুনঃপুনঃ ক্ষত ও ব্যথা হইলে, চক্ষু তাড়কায় আঘাত লাগিলে ইহা ফলপ্রদ । আঘাত লাগিবার পর যদি আর্ণিকা সেবনে আক্রান্ত স্থানে পিনবিদ্ধবৎ বেদনা হয় এবং অস্থিবেষ্টের ক্ষতান্বিত ভাব থাকে, তাহা হইলে এই ঔষধ দ্বারা সহজেই আরোগ্য হয় ।
ক্রিয়াস্থলঃ নরম হাড়, অস্থি-আবরক, চ্যাপটা হাড়ের উপর ইহার প্রধান ক্রিয়া ।

- Facilitates union of fractured bone (Cal. p.); lessens peculiar pricking pain; favors production of callous; when trouble is of nervous origin.
- Irritability at point of fracture; periosteal pain after wounds have healed.
- Mechanical injuries; blows, bruises, thrusts on the globe of the eye.
- Pain in eye after a blow of an obtuse body; snow ball strikes the eye; infant thrusts its fist into its mother's eye (to soft tissues around the eye, Arn.).
Relations:
Compare: Arn., Calend., Cal. p., Fluor. ac., Hep., Sil. Follows well: after Arnica for pricking pain, and soreness of periosteum remaining after an injury.

The root contains a crystalline solid, that stimulates the growth of epithelium on ulcerated surfaces.

It may be administered internally in the treatment of gastric and duodenal juries to sinews, tendons and the periosteum.

Acts on joints generally.

Neuralgia of knee.

Of great use in wounds penetrating to perineum and bones, and in non-union of fractures; irritable stump after amputation, irritable bone at point of fracture.

Psoas abscess.

Pricking pain and soreness of periosteum.
Head:
Pain in occiput, top and forehead; changing places.
Pain comes down bone of nose.
Inflammation of inferior maxillary bone, hard, red, swelling.
Eye:
- Pain in eye after a blow of an obtuse body.
- For traumatic injuries of the eyes no remedy equals this.
Relationship:
Compare: Arn; Calc phos.
Dose:
Tincture.
Externally as a dressing for sores and ulcers and pruritus ani.

A native of Europe, where it grows on banks of streams and in meadows ; also found in United States.
The tincture is prepared from the fresh root.
Introduced by Jeanes.

Headache in occiput, in top of head, in forehead, changing places.
SIGHT AND EYES.
Pain in eyes after a knock or contusion of an obtuse body.
After being struck upon eye with a cane by a child, no visible injury,
but a sensation on closing eye as if upper lid passed over an elevation
on bulb of eye ; on waking eye could not be easily opened, seemed
spasmodically closed.
HEARING AND EARS.
Cannot hear well ; feels as if ears were stopped up.
Inflamed ears.
LOWER FACE.
Inflammation of inferior maxillary bone; hard, red swelling.
SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH.
Pains across epigastrium from one side to other, < opposite spleen,
in walking ; when sitting < about navel ; griping pain.
FEMALE SEXUAL ORGANS.
Menses stopped ; headache, weight in forehead when she stoops ; has it
almost all time ; a good deal of fever every other hour ; cold all day,
cramp and diarrhoea ; nose sore inside ala, wants to pick it ; wants to
rub her eyes ; inflamed ears ; feels as if something were in them,
stopped up, cannot hear well.
NECK AND BACK.
Psoas abscess.
LOWER LIMBS.
More than a year ago fell and struck knee upon a stone ; wound healed
and left scarcely any trace, but there remained an acute stitching pain
in place, felt when clothing touched part, or when knee was bent.
Man suffering with a spontaneous luxation of thigh since childhood,
fell and received a fracture of affected thigh ; after two months
fragments were quite movable, and as union was despaired of, an
apparatus was made which allowed him to sit on a chair during day ;
Symphytum 4, four globules every six hours, brought about complete union
in twenty days.
REST, POSITION, MOTION.
Sitting : pain about navel.
Stooping : weight in forehead.
Walking : pain opposite spleen.
ATTACKS, PERIODICITY.
Every other hour : fever.
All day : cold.
SENSATIONS.
As if upper lid passed over an elevation on closing eye ; as if ears were stopped up.
Peculiar pain : in periosteum, after wounds have healed.
Pain : in eyes after a knock or contusion ; across epigastrium.
Stitching pain : in healed wound on knee.
Griping pain : about navel.
Weight : in forehead when stooping.
TISSUES.
Bruises, sprains ; sore breasts.
Inflammation of bones; diseased spinous processes.
Psoas abscess.
Facilitates union of fractured bones and lessens peculiar pricking pain ; favors production of callous.
TOUCH, PASSIVE MOTION, INJURIES.
Touch of clothing : acute pain in injured knee, after wound healed.
Wants to rest eyes.
Mechanical injuries, bad effects from blows, bruises, thrusts on eye.
Non-union of fracture, particularly when trouble is of nervous origin.
Injury to bones ; for example, when a blow on eyes injures orbital plates of frontal bone.
Irritable stump after amputation.
Peculiar pain in periosteum after wounds have healed.
Irritability of bone at point of fracture.
Gunshot wounds.
STAGE OF LIFE, CONSTITUTION.
Girl, at. 7, psoas abscess.
Miss P., at. 48 ; inflammation of inferior maxillary bone.
