পরিচয়ঃ গোখরা সাপের বিষ।ইহার নাম ন্যাজা ট্রাইপিউডিয়্যান্স বা কোব্রা, ইহাকে ”হুডেড স্নেকও (Hooded Snake) বলা হয়। Naja tripudians. Naja tripudians.

ন্যাজা প্রায় ল্যাকেসিসের সমকক্ষ, তবে ন্যাজায় মৃত্যুভয় থাকে, ল্যাকেসিসে মৃত্যুভয় থাকে না বরং মরণে উৎসাহ দেয়।

জানা যায়নি। তবে বিভিন্ন মেটেরিয়া মেডিকা মতে এই ঔষধের মায়াজম নিম্নরূপ:

মূল কথাঃ

হৃদপিন্ডের উপর ইহার ক্ষমতা প্রায় অসাধারণ।
বুক ধড়ফড়ানি এত বেশি যে রোগী কথা বলিতে পারে না।
নাড়ী অতি ক্ষীণ, নাই বলিলেও চলে।
হৃদপিন্ত আক্রান্ত হইয়া প্রবল শ্বাসকষ্ট, দমবন্ধ হইবার উপক্রম, হাঁপানি, মৃত্যুভয়ে কাতর, শুইয়া থাকিতে পারে না।
কলেরায় হিমাঙ্গ অবস্থা, শ্বাসকষ্ট, নাড়ীলোপ, চক্ষু বিস্ফারিত ও নিষ্পলক।
শরীরের বামদিক বেশি আক্রান্ত হয়।
বাম হস্ত অসাড়।
বামদিকে চাপিয়া শুইতে পারে না।
বাম পার্শ্বে শয়নে এবং সঞ্চালনে প্রায় সকল লক্ষণেরই বৃদ্ধি;
শ্বাসকষ্টে বাতাসের জন্য ব্যাকুলতা।
ডান পাশে চাপিয়া শুইলে শ্বাসকষ্টের উপশম।
ক্ষুধা ও তৃষ্ণা নেই বা অতিরিক্ত ক্ষুধা বা তৃষ্ণা।
হৃদপিন্ডের গোলযোগহেতু হাঁপানির সহিত কাশি, কাশির সহিত হাতের তালুতে ঘর্ম।
মাথা ও মুখমন্ডল উত্তপ্ত, দেহ হিম শীতল।

ব্যবহারস্থলঃ হৃদযন্ত্রের বিবৃদ্ধি, হৃদযন্ত্রের বিকৃতি, হৃদপিন্ডের ক্রিয়া বন্ধ হইয়া যাইবে বোধ, উর্দ্ধদিকে রক্তের উচ্ছ্বাস, মৃদু নাড়ী, হৃদপিন্ডের ভিতর সূঁচিবিদ্ধবৎ বেদনা, বুক ধড়ফড়ানি, সামান্য নড়াচড়ায় বৃদ্ধি। অন্যান্য সর্পবিষের ন্যায় ইহারও রোগ লক্ষণ ঘুম ভাঙ্গিবার পর এবং বামদিকে শয়নে বৃদ্ধি।

ক্রিয়াস্থলঃ ল্যাকেসিস, ক্রোটেলাস, প্রভৃতি অপরাপর সর্প-বিষের ন্যায় ন্যাজা রক্তস্রাব সৃষ্টি করে না, কিন্তূ রক্ত কণা হৃদযন্ত্রের উপর ইহার প্রধান ক্রিয়া।

উপশম/হ্রাসঃ ডানদিকে শুইলে, খোলা বাতাসে, আক্রান্ত পাশে শুইলে উপশম।

বৃদ্ধিঃ রাতে, শুইলে, বামদিকে শুইলে, কাপড়ের চাপে, মদ্য পানে, সংক্রামক রোগের পর বৃদ্ধি

Suicidal insanity, broods constantly over imaginary troubles (Aur.).
Simple hypertrophy of heart.
For restoring a heart damaged by acute inflammation, or from relief of sufferings of chronic hypertrophy and valvular lesions.
Irritating, dry, sympathetic cough in the acute stage of rheumatic carditis, or chronic organic lesions (Spon.).
Threatened paralysis of heart, post-diphtheritic.
Pulse irregular in force, but regular in rhythm.
Inability to speak with choking, nervous, chronic palpitation, especially after public speaking; pain < by carriage riding or lying on side. Severe stitching pain in region of heart.

Virus of the Cobra

Naja produces a typical bulbar paralysis (L. J. Boyd).
Causes no haemorrhage but only Oedema, hence the victims of this reptile frequently bear very little sign of external injury a small scratch or puncture being the only indication where the fangs have worked their havoc.
The tissue lying beneath the wound is colored dark purple, and a large quantity of viscid blood-like fluid collects in the vicinity of the wound.
An intense burning pain at the spot bitten is the first symptom.
In man there follows an interval before fresh symptoms occur.
The average is about an hour.
Once developed, the symptoms follow a rapid course.
A feeling of intoxication is produced, followed by a loss of power over the limbs.
The patient is bereft of speech, swallowing, and the control over the movement of the lips.
The saliva is ejected in large quantities, the respiration gradually becomes slower and slower, and at length ceases.
Conscious all time. Is not a haemorrhagic or septic, medicine like Lachesis and Crotalus.
Its action settles around the heart; valvular troubles.
Marked surging of blood upwards, marked dyspnoea, inability to lie on left side. Hypertrophy, and valvular lesions.
Organs seem to be drawn together.
Very susceptible to cold. With heart symptoms, pain in forehead and temples.
Diseases, primarily depending upon degeneration of motor cells.
Control of sphincters lost.

Mind:

Broods constantly over imaginary troubles. Suicidal insanity (Aur).
Depressed.
Aversion to talking. Blurred speech.
Melancholy.
Dreads to be left alone.
Fear of rain.

Head:

Pain in left temple and in left orbital region, extending to occiput, with nausea and vomiting.
Hay-fever, with dry larynx.
Suffocative spells after sleeping (Lach).
Eyes staring.
Ptosis of both lids.

Ears:

Illusions of hearing; otalgia; chronic otorrhoea, black discharges; smells like herring brine.

Respiratory:

Grasping at throat, with sense of choking.
Irritating, dry cough, dependent on cardiac lesions (Spong; Lauroc) Sticky mucus and saliva.
Asthmatic constriction in evening.
Asthma beginning with coryza.

Heart:

Dragging and anxiety in praecordia.
Feeling of weight on heart.
Angina pains extending to nape of neck, left shoulder and arm with anxiety and fear of death.
With the heart symptoms pain in forehead and temples.
Pulse irregular in force.
Threatened paralysis of heart, body cold, pulse slow, weak, irregular, tremulous.
Acute and chronic endocarditis.
Palpitation.
Stitching pain in region of heart.
Damaged heart after infections diseases.
Marked symptoms of low tension (Elaps, Vipera).

Female:

Neuralgia of left ovary; often serviceable in obscure pain in left groin, especially in post-operative cases; seems to be drawn to heart.

Sleep:

Profound, like a log, with stertorous breathing, a typical reptilian state.

Modalities:

Worse, from use of stimulants;
Better, from walking or riding in open air.

Relationship:

Compare: Serpent poisons generally. Bungarus Fasciatus (Banded Krait). This venom produces a condition like an acute polioencephalitis and myelitis, both symptomatically and histologically. Lach; Crotal; Spig; Spong.

Dose:

Sixth to thirtieth potency.

Here is a blood relative of Lachesis, if serpent poisons may be called relatives, and according to the symptoms arising from the bite of the serpent it ought to be equally valuable as a curative, but it has not yet been found so. Why not? on referring to Allen's Encyclopćdia we find twenty-nine provers, poisonings and all, for Lachesis, and forty-five for Naja. Of course, Lachesis has been longest in use; but has the difference in time been sufficient to account for the very great difference in utility? Another thing is noticeable; the provings of Lachesis were made mostly with potencies as high as the 30th, while those of Naja are almost all with the lowest preparation or the crude poison from the bite of the serpent. Does this account for it?

We also notice on referring to the same authority that all the most marked verifications are of symptoms produced by the provings of the 30th of Lachesis. Does this indicate that Naja must be proven in the potencies to develop its most efficient powers? Naja has been found of very decided use in affections of the heart, especially weak heart (Nux vomica, tired feeling); diphtheria, where there is impending heart failure or paralysis. Dyspnśa and prostration from weak heart, sympathetic cough in organic diseases with weak heart action. (Dry cough, sympathetic in heart affections, Spongia.) Palpitation and bad feeling in heart, < walking. In these troubles, as well as in chronic weakness of heart, there is no doubt of the value of Naja. Constantly dwells on suicide like Aurum. But further than this I do not know of very many marked successes from its use. Nevertheless, I feel convinced that with further proving and investigation, along the same line as Lachesis, it may rival if not outshine it.
